Stained Glass Playhouse

Why We Take the Stage

Mission & Values

Stained Glass Playhouse believes live theatre can do more than entertain. It can bring people together, encourage us to see life through another person’s eyes, start conversations, and create experiences shared by performers, volunteers, and audiences.

Community Theatre With Something to Say

Stories That Entertain, Connect and Inspire

Stained Glass Playhouse is a nonprofit community theatre committed to making affordable, professional-quality productions in an intimate setting. The Playhouse brings people together through stories that can delight an audience while also exploring moral messages, family values, community issues, relationships, choices, and the human experience.

That tradition does not mean every production is religious or doctrinal. It means theatre here can be entertaining and meaningful at the same time—an invitation to laugh, reflect, connect, and see the world through another person’s story.

What Guides the Playhouse

The Values Behind the Stage

These values are reflected throughout the Playhouse’s history and in the work that continues today.

01

Community

Theatre happens when performers, volunteers, supporters, and audiences come together.

02

Creativity

Creativity has been a defining thread in SGP’s history since its earliest productions.

03

Connection

Live theatre creates a shared experience between the people telling the story and the people watching it.

04

Meaningful Stories

SGP presents theatre that can entertain while exploring relationships, choices, values, and community issues.

05

Participation

Community theatre depends on people willing to share their talents, time, and ideas onstage and behind the scenes.

06

Stewardship

More than four decades of history create a responsibility to preserve the Playhouse while preparing it for future productions and generations.

More Than a Tagline

A Stage Without Curtains

“A Stage Without Curtains” expresses both the physical character and the spirit of Stained Glass Playhouse: stories and people meeting one another openly through live theatre.

“We laugh, we cry, we live, and we learn about love, joy and peace, with no curtains to hide behind.”

Everyone Has a Part to Play

Community Is Part of the Production

Every production depends on people contributing in different ways. Some step into the spotlight; others build, design, organize, welcome, support, and applaud. Together, they make community theatre possible.

An Intimate Place to Experience Theatre

A Stage With a Story of Its Own

Stained Glass Playhouse performs in the former sanctuary of Marvin United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. The unusual performance environment gives productions an intimate character, bringing audiences close to the actors and to the story unfolding onstage.

SGP is a nonprofit community theatre with its own identity; it is not the same organization as Marvin United Methodist Church.

Close to the Story

The Next Act

Honoring the Past. Building the Future.

The people, productions, and audiences of the past created the Stained Glass Playhouse we know today. Carrying that legacy forward means continuing to welcome new stories, new participants, and new audiences to the stage.
